Have you thought about your winter training plans during this off-season? Do they include strength training or finding ways to increase your overall endurance? If so, this new winter training program is for you! Introducing TRI-FIT, a 12-week strength & conditioning class designed specifically for the triathlete and led by Oakland Tri Clubs’ own running coach and certified Power Speed Endurance coach, Aaron Castillo.
Each TRI-FIT session is 60 mins in length and offers 24 different classes filled with a strength training component along with a metabolic conditioning time-based workout to challenge and develop stamina needed on the race course. New to weight lifting? No problem. Each lift is carefully explained with proper form demonstrated. Programming will consist of constantly varied, highly functional, high-intensity training including running, weight training and body weight movements.
Traditionally, endurance training has meant adding more time and volume to workouts for one’s body to compete a specific time or distance. This is known as LSD or long, slow distance training which can break the body down. Instead, this 12-week program will demand great attention to skill and technique. We’ll test that technique under stress over a much shorter period of time developing increased endurance and maximum VO2 capacity to compete faster, longer, and therefore see greater athletic gains during your off-season – all while remaining injury-free!
